“What would you attempt to do if you knew you could not fail?”
“My artistic process thrives in ensemble based practices utilizing movement and the human form to create and shape space. I’m interested in exploring the humanity engrained in each piece I work on as we are all human and are unique in our own way. Though I work mainly in musical theatre, I do have experience outside of the genre and want to continue that exploration. I have an interest in working on new work as well as exploring how we can revitalize older stories for today’s audiences. My practice is based in utilizing the breath to center the work. I have a calm and peaceful presence knowing when to hold on tightly and let go lightly. In process, I work efficiently, effectively, and quickly. I’m a true believer that a beautiful final product comes when your process and more importantly collaboration are successful. ”

“An artist who is truly a collaborator! Working with a director who cares about your thoughts and creative ideas is massively inspiring as an actor joined a project. Stacy deserves all the respect in the world for her care and deep thought towards her art!”

Stacy Hawking (she/her/hers) is a director, choreographer, and teaching artist based out of Houston, Texas. She was bitten by the theatre bug as a young child when her mother took her to see her first show on the big stage, Cats. The lights, set, music and performers left her in awe and she knew the stage is where she wanted to be. She started in the competitive dance world and slowly made the transition to theatre through the Young Artist Program at the Arkansas Repertory Theatre. “What would you attempt to do if you knew you could not fail?” was the quote that shaped her as a performer. Failure in this business is a given, but not being afraid of the failure is what the program taught her. She graduated from Ouachita Baptist University with her BFA in Musical Theatre in May 2016. It was through this program that she grew as a professional choreographer and found her passion for directing as well. She recently graduated from Texas State University with her Masters of Fine Arts in Directing in May 2023. Following graduation, she served as a visiting lecturer and guest director at her alma mater. She had the opportunity to work with the undergraduate students in the classroom, teaching introduction directing and acting courses, as well as directing Urinetown for the Texas State Musical Theatre program this past spring. It was during her time at TXST that she was able to connect with a handful of professional theaters including Theatre Under the Stars, San Pedro Playhouse, and Stageworks Houston working as a director, choreographer, and associate/assistant director. Regional credits: RENT (Assistant Director, TUTS), Matilda, the Musical (Choreographer, Stageworks Houston), The Pajama Game (Associate Director, The Public Theatre). Other select credits: Into the Woods (Director/Choreographer), The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time (Director), Teen Dad (Director), The Last 5 Years (Director). When she’s not in rehearsal or teaching, you can find her snuggled up to her sweet puppy, Rosie, who she is thoroughly obsessed with.
